Embody Your Story: Bringing Imagination to the Stories of Our Lives

Join us in this ancient, and new to Soma, practice of telling our stories in different ways. Rather than getting stuck in the details and the wounds of our stories, we will dive deeply into and through the personal story and enter the mythic nature of our journeys. We will do this through ancestor prayers, music and movement, writing and embodied story telling.

$40 per person

Next class: TBD

Moveable Parts: Becoming a Student of Your Body

A class that will be offered over the course of four weeks, on Thursdays, beginning October 8th. We will focus on different parts of the body through breath, movement, art and group process. This class is inspired by Susan Aposhyan's embodiment practice and Divining the Body by Jan Phillips. We will explore the following body parts each week; feet, hips, core and head. This class will be offered as a 4-week series, so when registering you will be registering for all four classes. This provides for deeper intimacy among participants.

Reunion

In this class, we explore relationship with our committed adult partner through movement, art process and ritual. Let it Shine

We begin by exploring through art, movement and ritual, the child's relationship to him or herself in the first two weeks. We then move into exploring partnership, small group interaction and then celebrating one large group process. This curriculum is suitable for various age groups with some modification and can be used very easily in school and therapeutic settings for children. This class includes art projects such as making prayer beads, exploring our bodies and physical boundaries through movement, and creating a mural that we share with the community.

Into the Wild

This class is for women and engages dance in new ways as a vehicle for reclaiming all of oneself. With the tales of the Skeleton Woman and the Baba Yaga to guide us, we dance, create art and celebrate our blood and bones with a ritual using mud. We call in the one who longs for us to come home to all of ourselves. She is the voice of unconditional and fierce love who waits for us in our dark corners. And on this evening, her Love for us is palpable.

$35 per person

Next class: TBD

Embodiment Practice

Based on the teachings of Susan Aposhyan and Embodiment Practice, in this class, we connect with our bodies in a new way. We listen. We wait. We allow our bodies to move in ways that are not ordered, but invited. We listen to the rhythms and wisdom of our bodies, and approach ourselves and the world through an inner relationship of heart, body and mind. We allow the natural intelligence of our bodies to come forth. The Curriculum includes: exploring our bodies through breath; sensation and movement; body systems of form (muscles, bones, nervous system); body systems of experience (skin, fluid, fat, viscera, the endocrine system); integrated embodiment practice.

$65 for 4-week series

Next class: TBD

Let it Shine

Manitou School District After School Program, Manitou Elementary School

The intention of this class is to affirm the creative spirit of our children through creative expression. We begin, in the first two weeks, by exploring through art, movement and ritual, the child's relationship to him or herself. We then move into exploring partnership; engaging in activities like examining space with big balloons and the quality of responsibility, in a leading and following exercise. We then move into small group interaction; exploring through yoga games, and art, our relationship to each other. And then we finish with celebrating in one large group process, which includes group stretching and painting a mural to share with our community. This class includes art projects such as making bead bracelets to remind each child of his/her unique beauty, exploring our bodies and physical boundaries through movement and body drawings, and painting our bodies to honor our relationship to them. In this culture and in this time, it is more important than ever that we stay connected to our bodies and hearts. Please join us as we do this in community. Parents are welcome to participate.
