It is dangerous to go in the direction of truth.
~ Helene Cixous
Soma is dedicated to offering educational opportunities that cultivate a relationship to one's breathing body through creative expression. Soma courses also support and foster the commitment and discipline it takes to live in embodied and sustainable ways in relationship to each other and the living, breathing planet. In order to live fully, we are invited to experience the truth of our lives.
The Soma program year is set up in such a way that it cultivates embodied connection, as well as the discipline required for this relationship between body and breath to be consistent and supportive to the student. Soma offers for adults two 8-week courses a year, 2 retreats a year, a monthly E-course to stay connected from near and far, as well as individual mentoring throughout the year. This structure offers boundaries for practice, which allows the student's commitment to be consistent and therefore deeper in nature. Students can sign up individually for each offering, or choose the year-long path of commitment. Please see below for details.

Navi: The Way of the Prophet An Advanced Year-Long Program with Soma
Navi is the Hebrew word for prophet or one who sees. To see ourselves, and the relationship we have with the world around us clearly, we must commit to exploring and listening, to the life that lives within us. It is from this deep place of wisdom, embodied uniquely through each one of us, that we are guided to right action in the world. Soma offers a year-long program, whose main components include an 8-week course in the fall, a winter retreat, an 8-week course in the spring and a summer retreat. This year-long program also offers individual mentoring throughout the year as well as E-courses once a month. There is an application and interview process for this program. If you are interested, please email Jenny at jenny@somamovement.org. Prerequisite: You must have attended at least one Body and Breath group or Soma retreat to enter this program.

Stratton Elementary After School Program
The intention of this class is to affirm the creative spirit of our children through creative expression. We begin, in the first two weeks, by exploring through art, movement and ritual, the child's relationship to him or herself. We then move into exploring partnership; engaging in activities like examining space with big balloons and the quality of responsibility, in a leading and following exercise. We then move into small group interaction; exploring through yoga games, and art, our relationship to each other. And then we finish with celebrating in one large group process, which includes group stretching and painting a mural to share with our community. This class includes art projects such as making bead bracelets to remind each child of his/her unique beauty, exploring our bodies and physical boundaries through movement and body drawings, and painting our bodies to honor our relationship to them. In this culture and in this time, it is more important than ever that we stay connected to our bodies and hearts. Please join us as we do this in community. Parents are welcome to participate.
Next Class: March-April, Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 pm
Tuition: $40
Past Soma Offerings
Join us in this ancient, and new to Soma, practice of telling our stories in different ways. Rather than getting stuck in the details and the wounds of our stories, we will dive deeply into and through the personal story and enter the mythic nature of our journeys. We will do this through ancestor prayers, music and movement, writing and embodied story telling.
$40 per person

This is a beautiful way to reconnect with your partner in intimate, non verbal ways. $45 per couple Next class: TBD

With the tales of the Skeleton Woman and the Baba Yaga to guide us, we dance, create art and celebrate our blood and bones with a ritual using mud. We call in the one who longs for us to come home to all of ourselves. She is the voice of unconditional and fierce love who waits for us in our dark corners. And on this evening, her Love for us is palpable. $35 per person Next class: TBD
Based on the teachings of Susan Aposhyan and Embodiment Practice, in this class, we connect with our bodies in a new way. We listen. We wait. We allow the natural intelligence of our bodies to come forth. The Curriculum includes: exploring our bodies through breath; sensation and movement; body systems of form (muscles, bones, nervous system); body systems of experience (skin, fluid, fat, viscera, the endocrine system); integrated embodiment practice. $65 for 4-week series Next class: TBD
