2008 Workshops and Classes

New Soma Offering:

Teshuva (pronounced "shoova"): Returning to the Holy Within

Teshuva is the Hebrew word for return or homecoming. This class offers an opportunity to come home to your body, your soul and the safe haven within you. The body is the vehicle to this landscape. Many of us search outside of ourselves to make life what we want it to be, rather than accepting authentically, what life is. In Teshuva, we will take the time to reacquaint ourselves with this home inside of us and strengthen our ability to live with life on life's terms. Come join me as we root in our bodies through meditation, movement, breath, creative expression and other body centered practices.

This program is offered to women, and will meet four times throughout the year. The class will be on the following dates from 10am to 4pm, with an hour for lunch:
  • November 8th
  • January 31st
  • April 25th
  • August 22nd

Each class will cost $85 and pre-registration is required. There will be a minimum of 5 students to hold this class. To register, please follow my registration policy at the top of this page.

The Circle: A gathering of Women

Meets the third Saturday of the month, 2 to 4pm, $25

The intention of this class is to explore the rhythms of the Earth in our bodies, through embodiment practice, movement, art and ritual.

We explore the following themes throughout the year:
  • January - Winter Solstice Dance and Simple Feast
  • February - Death
  • March- Opening to Possibility
  • April - Awakening
  • May - Rebirth

Next class: TBD

Let it Shine

Meets in the fall, winter and summer for an 8-week series, 4pm on Tuesdays, $96 per child

The intention of this class is to affirm the creative spirit of our children. We begin by exploring through art, movement and ritual, the child's relationship to him or herself in the first two weeks. We then move into exploring partnership, small group interaction and then celebrating one large group process. This curriculum is suitable for various age groups with some modification and can be used very easily in school and therapeutic settings for children. This class includes art projects such as making prayer beads, exploring our bodies and physical boundaries through movement, and creating a mural that we share with the community.

Next class: TBD

Reunion

Meets one evening each quarter, 7 to 9 pm, Friday evening, $45 per couple

In this class, we explore relationship with our committed adult partner through movement, art process and ritual. We experiment with using our bodies as resources to remain present to ourselves as we partner with another. We uncover ways of being with our partners in new and creative ways. We celebrate each other using body painting and we close in a ritual celebrating the senses. This is a beautiful way to reconnect with your partner in intimate, non verbal ways.

Next class: TBD

Into the Wild

Meets quarterly, 7 to 9:30 pm, Friday evenings, $35 per person

This class is for women and engages dance in new ways as a vehicle for reclaiming all of oneself. With the tales of the Skeleton Woman and the Baba Yaga to guide us, we dance, create art and celebrate our blood and bones with a ritual using mud. We call in the one who longs for us to come home to all of ourselves. She is the voice of unconditional and fierce love who waits for us in our dark corners. And on this evening, her Love for us is palpable.

Next class: TBD

Embodiment Practice

Meets monthly, 6 to 7:15 pm, Wednesday evenings, $65 for a 4 week series

Based on the teachings of Susan Aposhyan and Embodiment Practice, in this class, we connect with our bodies in a new way. We listen. We wait. We allow our bodies to move in ways that are not ordered, but invited. We listen to the rhythms and wisdom of our bodies, and approach ourselves and the world through an inner relationship of heart, body and mind. We allow the natural intelligence of our bodies to come forth. The Curriculum includes: exploring our bodies through breath; sensation and movement; body systems of form (muscles, bones, nervous system); body systems of experience (skin, fluid, fat, viscera, the endocrine system); integrated embodiment practice.

Next class: TBD

Hand to Hand

Meets quarterly, 2 to 3:30 pm, Saturday afternoon, $40 per parent/child

This class is for parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles and the important child in their lives. In this workshop, we explore relationship with our children through movement, music and art. This will include activities such as painting together in a unique way; moving as partners using sticks and experimenting with leading and following; and closing with a ritual of blessing using our hands and stones.
